As we all know, piezoelectric ceramic material are categorized as functional ceramics. piezoelectric ceramic materials are classified according to their chemical composition on the one hand, and by the specific application conditions on the other. so we spilt lead zirconate titanate (PZT) into two parts:Hard PZT and Soft PZT.
Hard PZT: high power ceramics can withstand high levels of electrical excitation and machanical stress. These materials are suited for high valtage or high power generators and ultrasonic cleaning, welding and hole drilling transducer, sonar and other high power acoustic radiation applications. These materials are capable of producing huge mechanical drive amplitudes while maintaining low mechanical and dielectric losses. In addition, it can be used under both constant and repetitive conditions.
Soft PZT:high sensitivity ceramics feature high sensitivity and permittivity. These materials are used in various pick-ups and sensors, low power transducer, receivers hydrophones, accelerometers, vibration sensors and low power generators.this material is a lead zirconate titanate with a high sensitivity, permittivity and time stability.
Hard and soft PZT's  differ in their piezoelectric constants. In general, soft PZT has a higher piezoelectric constant, but large losses in material due to interal friction. In hard PZT, domain wall
motion is pinned by the impurities thereby lowering the losses in the material, but at the expense of a reduced piezoelectric constant.
